A Poem for Mindy
I wrote the first verse of this poem about Mindy as a toddler, the way she appears in the first few pictures on the   Remembering Mindy  page. The second verse was written about her as a lively and emotional teenager! The third was written after Mindy and her daughter, Taylor, (then about 17 months old) had visited us. Taylor had been playing in the back yard with our new puppy, and had come back into the house looking for Mindy. A few minutes later, I found that they had fallen asleep on the sofa, Taylor in Mindy's arms. (I still regret that I did not take a picture of them).

You ran
barefoot in cool grass

golden curls shining in the sun

but soon you

came seeking comfort in my lap

pink cheeks, damp curls, sweet milk scent

you slept.

You sang

mostly right on key

with your sisters - what fun you had>

but sometimes

so bossy - "Do what I tell you

I'm the oldest one and you're not"

You'd say

In time
you ran to meet friends

your fragrance wafting in your wake

still sometimes

sought comfort only I could give

tear-stained cheeks, your pillow damp

you slept.

Then, this

child ran barefoot in

cool grass- squealing, chased joyous dog

I watched her

seek comfort in your loving arms

my heart's children - curls entwined -

both slept

Lullabye
"Goodnight My Angel "
"Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away"

"Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me"

"Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me"

"Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never die
That's how you And I
Will be"
